Green Pakistan Project — SEQUA & VFI Textile Sustainability Initiative

Selected associations in the textile sector in Pakistan communicate the requirements of responsible corporate governance in accordance with the LkSG/EU Green Deal to their members and communicate with buyers (e.g. VFI members).

Project Overview

The Green Pakistan Project is a BMZ-funded SEQUA partnership programme running from January 2025 to December 2026. German Importers (VFI e.V.) leads the international cooperation while Fruit of Sustainability (FOS) implements the project on the ground in Pakistan.

Selected associations in the textile sector in Pakistan communicate the requirements of responsible corporate governance in accordance with the LkSG/EU Green Deal to their members and communicate with buyers (e.g. VFI members).

The project targets at least 50 participating companies, with advisors from each association supporting factories to build management systems and publish sustainability reports aligned with German and EU due diligence requirements.

Funding & Governance Chain

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funds the project through SEQUA gGmbH, the implementation organisation for BMZ partnership programmes. VFI (Verband der Fertigwarenimporteure e.V.) is the German partner responsible for technical management, while FOS serves as the local partner and contact point for all project partners in Pakistan.

This governance structure ensures alignment between German buyers, development cooperation objectives, and practical capacity building within Pakistani textile associations.

Participating Associations

Three Pakistani textile associations participate: PRGMEA (Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association), PSGMEA (Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers & Exporters Association), and TMA (Towel Manufacturers' Association of Pakistan).

Each association nominates three full-time sustainability advisors who undergo education, training, and coaching to support member factories with LkSG/EU Green Deal implementation and sustainability reporting.

Digital Transparency Platform

This website (greenpakistan.de) is the official digital platform for the Green Pakistan Project. It provides public visibility into association dashboards, participating factory profiles, sustainability publications, and project progress — enabling buyers, associations, and stakeholders to track compliance journeys in real time.
